I asked a new elderly friend, “Have you ever been married?”
Without missing a beat, he said, “My dad was married five times. I watched the law run his life. I never wanted to bring the law into my life.”
What we do influence those around us. The point here is not that this guy should have been married or not. Marriage is a choice and there is nothing inherently right or wrong about getting married or remaining single. The point here is that his father’s experience with marriage shaped his own.
What if marriage and the law were not the problems? What if his dad’s approach to it was the issue? If that’s so, his dad’s screw up took away a serious option that his son could have considered as a way of living his life.
