Assurance of your Salvation
The apostle John wrote, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”[i] Why did the apostle care to make sure the people who already believed knew that they had eternal life? After you have accepted Christ, the devil always comes to try to get you to doubt your salvation. He knows that if he can get you to doubt, he can easily keep you from reading your bible, walking with Christ and learning to wear the full armor of God with which you will be able to fight and defeat him[ii].

Satan even tried to get Jesus to doubt that he was the son of God. In Matthew 4, in the second temptation of Jesus, Satan said “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down.” He told Jesus, “If you are the son of God”. With that, he was introducing doubt into Jesus’ that perhaps he is not the son of God. Then he followed that with a request for Jesus to do something to prove his sonship. What he asked was something he knew Jesus couldn’t do (because it’s against God’s will). So Satan will introduce his doubt by saying, well if you can’t do it, then you must not be the son of God.

Satan also deceived Eve in the garden of Eden by introducing doubt! He told her, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” After introducing this doubt in her and causing her to doubt what God had clearly forbidden, Satan proceeded to deceive Eve to eat of the fruit of the forbidden tree. That is how sin entered into the world–because Satan introduced doubt into Eve!

Satan still uses this tactic even today! He will bring thoughts up in your mind that makes you to doubt if you truly have been saved after you have been led to Christ.

The only way to conquer the devil is to know your bible and obey God. Having doubt in the truth and security of your relationship with God is a lack of faith[iii]. Without faith it is impossible to please God[iv]. With doubts is impossible to receive an answer to your prayers from God. Don’t give the devil a foothold[v]. Read your bible!
