  4. It is a component of the broader executive functions, which are a set of higher-order cognitive processes that allow for planning, problem-solving, and goal-directed behavior.

In summary, self-control is more focused on the regulation of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to resist immediate impulses, while cognitive control involves the management of cognitive resources to achieve goals or adapt to changing situations. Both are important for successful functioning in daily life, and they often overlap and interact with each other.
