Uprightness is an ideal that most people never fully attain. Yet, we are still judged by how upright we are and trust depends on that. Because it is such an ideal, rather than pick a contemporary figure that would be subject to much debate, I refer you to the following biblical biographies for examples of people who were called righteous in their day. Whether the reader believes in the Bible or not, I encourage him/her to approach the text not as religious one but as simple depictions of what some cultures and traditions have viewed and still view as upright character. Then decide, do you agree with this depiction? What do you agree or disagree with? Who are some contemporary people that you would call upright?
- Job was an upright person. Job 1:1-22Â ESV
- Joseph of Arimathea was an upright man. Luke 23: 50-54 NIV
- Joseph, the step father of Jesus, was an upright man. Matthew 1:19 BBE
