“Everything in life is Father-filtered — even the hard things caused by our sin or others’ sin that God can still use for his good.” Rick Warren
I love the sovereignty of God in all things. When I am weak and frail as I am most of the time, it gives me great comfort to know that our God is sovereign. Here are a few scriptures that show God’s sovereignty. Sometimes, when I am going through a difficult time, I like to meditate on God’s sovereignty. As you know, we all have some kind of amnesia for God’s greatness. Reminding ourselves through meditation is a good way.
1 Chronicles 29:11. “Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all”
Psalm 97:1-end. The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice…
Daniel ch.1 to ch. 5 (Read it and look for God’s hand behind everything that happens in history, politics, personal lives etc).
Daniel 4 (Nebuchadnezzar’s Humiliation and subsequent Restoration). Especially verses 28-37. Most especially verse 35.
“At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever,
for his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
and his kingdom endures from generation to generation;
all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing,
and he does according to his will among the host of heaven
and among the inhabitants of the earth;
and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”
At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” Daniel 4: 34-37 ESV
Psalms 93:1. The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in Majesty and is armed with strength.
Romans 8:28-30
Isaiah 40:9-31
Job 38 to 41
Job 42:1-6
Isaiah 46:8-13
8“Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels.
9Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
10I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’
11From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.
12Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are now far from my righteousness.
13I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed.
I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.”
1 Samuel 2:6-8
“The Lord brings death and gives life;
He sends some to Sheol, and He raises others up.
7 The Lord brings poverty and gives wealth;
He humbles and He exalts.
8 He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the garbage pile.
He seats them with noblemen
and gives them a throne of honor.[a]
For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s;
He has set the world on them.”
Lamentations 3:37-38
“Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it?”
Proverbs 19:21
“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Deuteronomy 32:39
See now that I, I am He, and there is no god besides Me; it is I who puts to death and gives life. I have wounded, and it is I who heals; and there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
Psalm 33:10-11
The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the
peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
Romans 11:33-34
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”
Isaiah 55:9
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Daniel 4:35. He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: ‘What have you done? ‘
