Many people think that malnutrition only results from a lack of adequate quantities of food.  They conceive people who are malnourished as underweight. A picture of underweight suffering children in a foreign country comes to their minds when they think of malnutrition. The truth is that many people in America are malnourished and obese. They never miss a meal. The only problem is that what they feed their bodies is not real food. They eat heavily processed foods and sugars that leave their bodies obese but malnourished. For them, food quantity is not the problem, it’s poor food quality that is hurting them.

Malnutrition is the lack of adequate nutrition resulting from insufficient food, an unbalanced diet, or defective assimilation. You can be malnourished while having three meals per day if that food is unbalanced or if you don’t assimilate it properly.
