Jennifer Turley, PhD, is a distinguished professor of nutrition. She received a doctorate degree in nutrition science from the University of Texas-Austin and a baccalaureate degree in nutrition from Arizona State University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute and later trained to become a master online teacher. Throughout her extensive career, Dr. Turley has established herself as an innovative educator, transformative academic leader, valuable mentor, adept scholar, public speaker, and credible scientist.
She is the recipient of several awards; most notable are the Utah Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (UAND) Award of Recognition and the Brady Presidential Distinguished Professor Award. She has led growth in multiple academic departments and the nutrition program, where she works full-time with vision, grit, ethics, faith, and teamwork. She is highly engaged in professional service and scholarship and is a prolific author, having published over 20 refereed journal articles and several editions of two academic textbooks.
On a personal note, Jennifer is a person of strong faith and belief in the bible and trusts Jesus as Lord and Savior. She has been married to her husband, John, since 1987 and is the mother of two adopted children (Jonathan and Jasmine). She loves dogs and considers herself fortunate to have had Arnold (a Rottweiler), Samson (an Airedale Terrier), Jude (a Standard Poodle), and Kali (a Great Pyrenees). Jennifer enjoys swimming, hiking, walking, and weight lifting. She is a musician, songwriter, recording artist, and worship leader. Her primary instruments are saxophone (alto, soprano, and tenor), clarinet, and piano. She also plays the pan flute and sings lead and harmony vocals in English, Spanish, and Runyankole (with the help of her spiritual Ugandan son, Pastor Manyindo Fredrick of El Shaddai Hope for the Hopeless Ministries and Free Life Church).
