2 Cor. 13:5 says”Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.”
It’s easy to look at someone else and judge them on their level of spirituality or passion for the Lord. How often do we unknowingly sit up on a pestle of subconscious self-righteousness and point out the speck of dust in our brother or sisters eye all the while having a huge plank barging out of our own?
Today I was reading Romans 12:9-21 and it hit me that I live most of my days as a Christian without many of the things that passage talks about! Am I quick to honor someone else above myself rather than fish for compliments? Am I joyful and patient and faithful…especially when things aren’t going the way I would want them to? Do I repay evil for evil? I was shocked and humbled when I realized the truth: I don’t meet many of the criteria in Romans 12 and I don’t examine myself nearly enough in order to even notice!
