One of my passions is to help people find their calling in life and empower them to live the life they were created to live. Something I’ve discovered along the way is that many people often jump to talking about possibly quitting their jobs. They do this because they don’t find their jobs fulfilling and meaningful. They are disengaged and go to work only because their jobs pay their bills. This happens to most workers in America. Research by Gallup and other researchers is showing that over two-thirds of Americans are disengaged at work, or worse. 51% are not engaged and another 16% resent their jobs.
My advice is that before you change your job in search of your calling, you should change your perspective or attitude first. Many times, if we change our attitude and start living intentionally on our jobs, seeking to serve people from the heart and seeking to make a difference in people’s lives, we will realize that passion and love for the work we do come flooding in. We are created to serve others.
I agree that for some people, the line of work they are in doesn’t align with their dreams, gifts, and passions. An attitude change alone would not be sufficient. In those cases, by all means, you should find work that aligns with who you are.
