The Difference Between Anxiety and Stress

Cannon (1929) called this “homeostasis.” Selye (1956) used the term “stress” to represent the effects of anything that seriously threatens homeostasis. Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps one deal with a tense situation in the office, study harder for an exam, keep focused on an important speech. In general, it helps one cope. Stress can be acute stress vs. chronic stress. Stress may be plotted on an XY axis with the X axis denoting time and the Y-axis denoting intensity.
Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety disorder, and Panic attacks are responses to stress.
