I’ve spent years trying to uncover and distill the key things that great leaders do. If you want to become a great leader, what are the things that you must focus on? You can’t do everything. What are the essential, backbone things that you must do as a leader to be a great leader?
Every great leader is first a SERVANT. In fact, great leaders are servants of servants. I created the acronym, SERVANT, to help people remember these 7 crucial things that great leaders always do. If you focus your leadership on these things and do them well, you will become great.
- Set the course & steer the ship
- Enlist & Engage team members; Endow the organization with future leaders.
- Reward & recognize team members.
- Validate team members.
- Authorize and empower team members to serve. He gives the both the authority and the ammunition to fight and win the war.
- Nurture and grow the team.
- Typify service and the culture. Talk the talk and walk the walk. He must be the touchstone.
Note that the 7 things spell out the acronym SERVANT
